Happy Valley Improv Announces Summer Schedule
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., June 4 – Friday, June 7 kicks off a jam-packed summer for Happy Valley Improv, State College’s premier longform improv company. Every Friday throughout the summer season, the company will host 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. shows at the Blue Brick Theatre located at 209 W. Calder Way in State College. These shows include company member group performances as well as showcases highlighting community members who have taken stand-up and improv comedy classes.
Up first is a full weekend of events coinciding with State College Pride. The 7 p.m. show on June 7 features performances from company groups See You Next Time and He Said/They Said as well as a LGBTQIA+ montage, in which company members from the LGBTQIA+ community will improvise a series of scenes based off audience suggestions. The 9 p.m. show features groups Trigonometry and Four Chances. Tickets for these performances — and all other Happy Valley Improv shows — can be purchased online at bluebricktheatre.com or in person at the Theatre’s box office.
On Saturday, June 8, the company will appear in the State College Pride Parade beginning at 10 a.m. As part of the State College Pride Festival, Happy Valley Improv will perform at 1:50 p.m. at Sidney Friedman Park; admission to State College Pride is free. At 7 p.m. at the Theatre, the company hosts a “Battle at the Brick” improv game show. With a $10 admission charge, the interactive show will help raise funds for Centre LGBT+, whose mission is to bring the community together through LGBT+ education, advocacy and activities in the Centre County region.
As shows continue each Friday evening, the company will be preparing for performances at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. New this year, on July 11 at 7 p.m., the group presents a Youth Show, spotlighting local middle and high school members of the Happy Valley Improv youth program. On July 12 and July 13, the company will have performances at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Theatre.
To wrap up the summer season on August 29, Happy Valley Improv presents the XS Fest, a one-day festival that includes an improv workshop, local activities, and nine different improv groups from around the country performing at the Theatre.
