2024: A record-breaking year for tourism in Centre County. What’s next?
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTAJ) — The tourism industry in Centre County broke records in 2024, and the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau (HVAB) is looking to keep up the momentum.
As Centre County grows, so too does its tourism industry. According to the HVAB, in 2024, there was:
$1 billion in visitor spending
$104,009,031 in lodging revenue
$699 million in annual sports & arts entertainment impact
5.1 million person trips
There are the obvious economic boosters of PSU football games and events like the Grange Fair, but the Happy Valley Sports & Entertainment Alliance wants to focus on new areas.
“To maximize our impact, we must continue to actively pursue and secure participatory events that bring not only athletes but also their families and supporters into Happy Valley,” Executive Director Eric Engelbart said. Those events include ones like the upcoming State College Criterium. Even though last year broke records, HVAB CEO Fritz Smith says they need to get even more creative with fresh ideas.
