Happy Valley Sports Tourism Generates Over $29 Million in Economic Impact

STATE COLLEGE, PA - The 2024–25 fiscal year was a major win for sports tourism in Happy Valley. Over the 12-month span, the region hosted events that brought in 24,000+ athletes and 58,000+ spectators, resulting in an estimated 37,000 hotel room nights and over $20 million in direct visitor spending. Altogether, the total estimated economic impact surpassed $29 million.

The year featured a wide range of events across multiple sports and age groups. Notable highlights included the return of the Middle School Basketball Championships and IRONMAN 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley—two fan-favorite events that continued to draw strong participation. This was also the first year Happy Valley hosted the USACFC Collegiate Fencing National Championships at the Nittany Valley Sports Centre, and organizers have already announced its return for 2026. Spring was especially busy, as the Keystone State Wrestling Championships took place the same weekend as the Girls Middle School Basketball event, marking the busiest spring break weekend to date.

Fall events helped keep the region busy between Penn State football weekends. Tournaments like the PIAA State Golf Championships, America’s Wrestling Cup, and the Ultimate Club Duals brought athletes and families from across the state, adding to Happy Valley’s growing reputation as a top sports destination.

These events brought more than just excitement—they provided a major boost to local hotels, restaurants, and small businesses. With continued investment in top-tier venues, strong organizational support, and an engaged community, Happy Valley stands out as a go-to spot for regional and national events across Pennsylvania. A huge thank you goes out to our community for their ongoing support and patience as we welcome large crowds and growing events to the region. Your hospitality plays a vital role in making sports tourism a success in Happy Valley.
