Inaugural America’s Wrestling Cup to Take Place at Nittany Valley Sports CentRE
STATE COLLEGE, PA - John A. Hughes, globally experienced wrestling coach, is proud to announce the launch of the America’s Wrestling Cup, a wrestling tournament taking place in Centre County.
The America’s Wrestling Cup is now accepting registration for Girls high school teams, Boys high school teams, and Boys k-8 teams. The tournament will feature 6-7 dual meets taking place for all divisions. America’s Wrestling Cup is a premier sanctioned event accepting teams with a minimum of one member per weight class, allowing four additional wrestlers per team. Awards will be presented to the top three teams, along with one outstanding wrestler.
The tournament will take place from Friday, October 25, through Sunday, October 27 at the Nittany Valley Sports Centre. Below is the schedule of events:
Friday 10/25
3pm - 4pm : Early Weigh-ins for All Division ($20 Early Weigh in Fee)
5pm - 7pm : Regular Weigh-Ins for All Divisions
Saturday 10/26
7am : Doors Open
8am : Competition Begins
5pm : Approximate Conclusion
Sunday 10/27
7am : Doors Open
8am : Individual Competition Begins; Madison Weight Brackets

Founder John A. Hughes is a globally experienced wrestling coach and a four-time PIAA State Champion wrestler. Hughes graduated from Penn State, where he earned titles such as NCAA Championship, Big 10 Champion, Gold Medalist at the Pan-Am Games, along with University Freestyle Champion. He would then go on to become a Division I Coach for 22 years, coaching many well decorated athletes including 2024 Olympian Darian Cruz. Hughes was also recently inducted into the Pennsylvania Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
