2025 Rothrock Trail Challenge Draws Competitors from Across the Country

STATE COLLEGE, PA- On May 18, the Rothrock Trail Challenge returned to the rugged trails of Rothrock State Forest for the 13th consecutive year. Drawing runners from 11 states, including as far west as Colorado, participants tackled one of Pennsylvania’s toughest races.

Starting at 9 a.m. at the Tussey Mountain Pavilion, 176 runners completed either a challenging 16.5-mile course or a slightly shorter but still tough 11.3-mile option. Runners took on rocky switchbacks in Shingletown Gap, climbed open ridges with stunning views, and tackled tough downhills that challenged even experienced racers.

In the 16.5-mile race, Marisa Deichert won the women’s division, with Meira Meinard - race director - finishing close behind. Koltin Hammer from Erie took the men’s title, just ahead of local runner Jacob Loverich. In the 11.3-mile race, Sam Patterson, also on the RTC team led the women, and Eric Marshall finished first for the men. Every runner showed impressive grit on this demanding course.

The event was a success thanks to the many volunteers, sponsors, and partners who helped make it happen. From setting up the course to handing out drinks and cheering runners on, their support made a big difference. Special thanks go to Happy Valley Sports and Entertainment Alliance, Axemann Brewery, Angelo’s, and Rapid Transit for their generous contributions. Proceeds from the race were donated to the Tussey Mountain Ski Patrol, helping support local outdoor programs.

With the 2025 race complete, organizers are already preparing for next year. The Rothrock Trail Challenge will return in 2026 for another exciting day on the trails. Follow @RothrockTrailChallenge on social media for updates and registration info
