‘814 Originals’ Shines a Spotlight on Centre County Musicians
By Geoff Rushton STATE COLLEGE, PA—A new project, 814 Originals, is celebrating Centre County’s vibrant music scene by pairing original local acts with unique downtown venues. The project kicked off with a concert and music video premiere at The State Theatre. 814 Originals is a collaboration between the Happy Valley Sports & Entertainment Alliance and Spaces in Between Productions.
Season 1 features performances by Caledonia, Chris Bell Duo, Hannah Bingman, Ma’aM, and Mellow Honey, recorded live at venues like Webster’s Bookstore Cafe, Manny’s Live, and Antifragile Brewing. The videos, which can be viewed on the HVSEA YouTube, capture both the sound and soul of the artists and the spaces they perform in. An EP of the tracks is streaming on all major platforms, with royalties going directly to the artists.
814 Originals aims to connect audiences with the diverse sounds and settings of State College. “We’re trying to shine light on the talent that’s here in Happy Valley, those bands that are located here singing original songs, and as part of this video series, you’ll see that we showcase venues as well,” said HVSEA’s Eric Engelbarts. While there’s no set plan yet for Season 2, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, and more bands are already expressing interest.
